MAIA's History
The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA) is a professional trade association for independent insurance agents. The Association was formed in 1992 as a result of the merger of the Professional Insurance Agents of Michigan (PIA) and the Independent Insurance Agents of Michigan (IIAM). MAIA is the largest association for independent agents in the state.

Membership Requirements
To be a member of MAIA, an insurance agency must be licensed to sell property and casualty insurance, representing at least one independent property and casualty company. Also, ownership of expirations must exist and the agency must be available to represent other independent insurance companies. Associate Membership
MAIA also has an Associate Membership classification available to insurance companies, life agents, suppliers and vendors. Over 100 firms take advantage of this classification. Big "I" Affiliation
The Michigan Association of Insurance Agents is affiliated with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA). Members are automatically members of the National Association when they join MAIA. To learn more about our national association, visit their website.
